60 Faces of NCSY

Often, a person has no idea of the impact he or she has made on someone else. 60 Faces of NCSY was created to change that. The people we feature every day were nominated by NCSY alumni and NCSYers to express gratitude to someone that inspired them.

Carol Rhine

Chief Operating Officer NCSY New York

Nominated and written by Miriam Agular, Previous NCSY Advisor and Staff Member

If Superman was real, Carol Rhine would put him to shame.

Carol Rhine has been more than just the Chief Operating Officer of the New York NCSY region. Carol does not just oversee the region’s needs, she also cares about her staff and NCSYers as individuals, and gives up immeasurable time and heart for all those who cross her path.

Carol has guided me to become a leader and make my dreams a reality. In my senior year of college, I was required to do fieldwork that would support an urban issue in a non-for profit society. Although NCSY was not on the department’s general list of sectors students intern for, I received permission to intern in the New York NCSY office. From the beginning of my hours in the office, Carol gave me her utmost patience and guidance for all of the ideas I wanted to implement. Anyone can listen to an idealistic college student and encourage growth, but Carol went the extra mile and walked me through the process of writing proposals, networking with the best people to help my causes and providing chizuk and encouragement when the ideas did not make it.

Because of all of Carol’s efforts, more than five unaffiliated families attended an info session about Israeli options for themselves and their children—two of whom attended one of the summer trips. Because of Carol’s patience and guidance, numerous mother-daughter programs were organized that have given families fond memories that can never be taken away. Because of Carol’s heart of gold, I have been inspired to give and open my heart to others so that I can pass on the lessons that she has taught and empowered me with.

I am only one person of the thousands who have been inspired by Carol. Hundreds upon hundreds of participants of NCSY’s JUMP have walked away from her programs emboldened to make change, hundreds upon hundreds of advisors have walked away from Carol feeling like nothing is impossible and hundreds upon hundreds of people have walked away from her fundraisers wanting to give to NCSY, even if they never gave before. Thousands upon thousands owe Carol Rhine Hakarat HaTov for changing their lives, even in the smallest of ways.
